Deformable MPO fiber trunk cable

A deformable MPO fiber trunk cable with 12 or 16 fibers, modeled as a flat ribbon rod that bends easily one way and resists the other, for data center optics handling.

Also called MPO cable, MPO trunk, ribbon fiber cable or multi fiber trunk.

How is the deformable MPO fiber trunk cable modeled?

An MPO trunk carries a ribbon of fibers inside a flat or round jacket, so it bends easily across the ribbon and resists bending along it. We model it as an elastic rod with different bending stiffness on its two axes, plus a minimum bend radius flagged in the asset so a task can check every bend.

The MPO connectors are hand-modeled rigid bodies with their guide pins or holes, the key and the spring-loaded outer sleeve that releases the plug when pulled back.

Which parts of the deformable MPO fiber trunk cable deform?

Ribbon jacket
Bends easily across its width and resists bending along it
Boots
Stiffer sections behind each connector
Connector sleeve
Slides back on a spring to release the plug
Rigid parts
MPO connector bodies, Guide pins

What ships in the USD?

One USD file per variant, with the render mesh, the simulation geometry and a physics material bound to it. Every value is set and named, so you can open it in NVIDIA Isaac Sim and run your task, or read the numbers into your own solver from the material JSON.

  • Elastic rod. A centerline curve with a radius, and stiffness in bending, twisting and stretching. Used for cables, wires, hoses and ropes.
  • Articulated. Rigid links joined by revolute, prismatic or helical joints, with limits, damping and springs where the real object has them.

Where is it used?

  • Replacing optics in a switch
  • Routing fiber trunks along a tray
  • Mating MPO connectors

Questions

Which simulators does the deformable mpo fiber trunk cable open in?

It ships as USD for NVIDIA Isaac Sim and Newton. We also deliver MJCF for MuJoCo and Genesis, a GLB mesh, and a JSON file with every material value.

Can it be matched to our real object?

Yes. Send us a sample, a drawing or a few photos and we set size, stiffness and friction to match your part.

How do we get it?

Choose your simulator, format and variant, then tell us where to send it. We prepare the files and email them to you.

Not in the catalog? We build any object to order, with the same physics and delivery.
