Cables, wires and hoses

Deformable rope

A deformable rope or cord with low bending stiffness, modeled as an elastic rod for knot tying, lashing and logistics tasks.

Also called cord, string, line or twine.

Elastic rod

Delivered as USD for NVIDIA Isaac Sim

How is the deformable rope modeled?

Rope is almost all twist and very little bend resistance. We model it as a rod with low bending stiffness, real twist stiffness and enough self-collision radius that knots hold instead of passing through themselves.

Nylon and cotton differ in friction and stretch, which decides whether a knot slips. Both ship with their own material settings.

Which parts of the deformable rope deform?

Rope
Very soft in bending; twists and forms knots

What ships in the USD?

One USD file per variant, with the render mesh, the simulation geometry and a physics material bound to it. Every value is set and named, so you can open it in NVIDIA Isaac Sim and run your task, or read the numbers into your own solver from the material JSON.

  • Elastic rod. A centerline curve with a radius, and stiffness in bending, twisting and stretching. Used for cables, wires, hoses and ropes.

Where is it used?

  • Tying knots
  • Lashing a load
  • Dexterous manipulation benchmarks

Industries: Logistics, Household

Questions

Which simulators does the deformable rope open in?

It ships as USD for NVIDIA Isaac Sim and Newton. We also deliver MJCF for MuJoCo and Genesis, a GLB mesh, and a JSON file with every material value.

Can it be matched to our real object?

Yes. Send us a sample, a drawing or a few photos and we set size, stiffness and friction to match your part.

How do we get it?

Choose your simulator, format and variant, then tell us where to send it. We prepare the files and email them to you.

Not in the catalog? We build any object to order, with the same physics and delivery.
