Deformable corrugated box with open flaps

A deformable corrugated box with open top flaps, modeled as rigid panels on hinged score lines, for box closing and packing robots.

Also called cardboard box, shipping carton, RSC box or open box.

Delivered as USD for NVIDIA Isaac Sim

How is the deformable corrugated box with open flaps modeled?

We model each panel and flap of the box as a stiff plate and each score line as a hinge with a little spring, so flaps fall open, swing on their crease and hold a fold once closed. This is the same structure as a real regular slotted case.

Box sizes follow common shipping cartons, and the board thickness and friction are set for single-wall corrugated.

Which parts of the deformable corrugated box with open flaps deform?

Top flaps
Swing on hinged score lines and hold when folded
Walls
Stiff panels that flex slightly at the corners

What ships in the USD?

One USD file per variant, with the render mesh, the simulation geometry and a physics material bound to it. Every value is set and named, so you can open it in NVIDIA Isaac Sim and run your task, or read the numbers into your own solver from the material JSON.

  • Articulated. Rigid links joined by revolute, prismatic or helical joints, with limits, damping and springs where the real object has them.
  • Thin shell. A thin surface with in-plane and bending stiffness, sealed or open, with contents modeled inside. Used for film, bags, cans and paper.

Where is it used?

  • Closing box flaps
  • Packing items into a box
  • Taping a box shut

Questions

Do the flaps stay folded once closed?

Yes. Each score line is a hinge with a small spring, so a flap holds a fold and does not spring fully back open.

Which simulators does the deformable corrugated box with open flaps open in?

It ships as USD for NVIDIA Isaac Sim and Newton. We also deliver MJCF for MuJoCo and Genesis, a GLB mesh, and a JSON file with every material value.

Can it be matched to our real object?

Yes. Send us a sample, a drawing or a few photos and we set size, stiffness and friction to match your part.

How do we get it?

Choose your simulator, format and variant, then tell us where to send it. We prepare the files and email them to you.
