Deformable food assets: fruit, bread, leafy greens and dough

Food is soft, varied and easy to damage. No two tomatoes are the same shape, and the force that holds one can bruise the next. Our food assets come in sets of natural variation in size, shape and ripeness, with stiffness set for each ripeness level.

Firm produce is modeled as soft volumes. Leaves are thin cloth-like surfaces, and dough and other plastic foods use particle methods that let them flow and keep a new shape.

Physics model

FEM soft body
A tetrahedral volume solved with the finite element method, with the visible surface carried by it. Used for foam, rubber and soft food.
Rigid body
A body with mass, center of mass, inertia and a collision mesh, plus friction and restitution.
Articulated
Rigid links joined by revolute, prismatic or helical joints, with limits, damping and springs where the real object has them.
Cloth
A triangle surface with stretch, shear and bending stiffness and a thickness. Used for towels, sheets and garments.
MPM particles
Particles solved with the material point method, for granular fills and materials that flow and keep a new shape.
Elastic rod
A centerline curve with a radius, and stiffness in bending, twisting and stretching. Used for cables, wires, hoses and ropes.
